Sr. Research Engineer


Job Description

Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance,Testing, Inspection and Certification) Services, is looking for a Research Engineer to join our Product Assurance team in Arlington Heights, IL.
Intertek provides consultation and research services to global, brand-name companies involved in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of consumer products. Our Product Assurance team uses innovative, scientific methods to help clients eliminate product characteristics that may lead to complaints, recalls, injuries, or fatalities. Through research, testing, inspection, and certification, Intertek helps clients to ensure the products they are distributing are safe for consumers around the world.
The successful Research Engineer will work with internal and external customers and consultants to design and build custom assessments to evaluate the safety of consumer products that are not adequately addressed by existing standards or test procedures. In most cases these devices incorporate innovative mechanical designs and data acquisition systems. Execution and understanding of experiments is required. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, innovative, self-directed, multitasking, and able to work independently or in teams to meet time and quality requirements.

  • Develop or test customized technical methods using a variety of analytical techniques to support project managers in delivering solutions to clients
  • Conduct appropriate studies to verify method accuracy and reproducibility
  • Document results and methods.
  • Translate technical solutions and issues for clients.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical issues when they arise.
  • Perform tasks essential to meeting client%26rsquo;s needs through direction from project managers.
  • Set up analyses and train others to operate various pieces of equipment.
  • Assist with measuring, collecting and recording test data when needed.
  • Assist in writing portions of client reports for lab manager review.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or physics, Master's degree preferred
  • 0 %26ndash; 5 years experience in one or more of the following disciplines
    • Mechanical Engineering or Material Design
    • Physics
    • Data analytics/statistics
    • CAD experience (Solidworks, AutoCAD, Rhino etc.)
  • Demonstrated critical thinker, strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong customer service abilities to work in this high energy, team focused group
  • Skilled in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
